The Status Right Now

We love riding bikes, but health and safety are our primary concerns. In light of COVID-19 and our desire to ride, we are going to wait before we attempt to adjust the date of the 2020 Major Taylor Mountain Summit. We are monitoring the outbreaks of COVID-19 closely, are in contact with the local Blowing Rock government and are tracking North Carolina governmental agencies for guidance to determine the risk associated with the event. You are encouraged to keep riding to stay healthy, solo rides are good for you and comply with most Coronavirus self-isolation guidelines. Remember to wash your hands after riding. At this time all 2020 USA Cycling events scheduled up to April 5, have been postponed due to bans on public gatherings. We are not under USAC, but after that date, we will assess the situation on whether to make any changes to the Summit’s status.

We want to welcome you to ride in the high mountains this year in Blowing Rock, NC just outside of Boone, for our 20th Major Taylor Mountain Summit.

Three days of riding in the local mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mostly quiet back roads in addition to the Linn Cove Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway and climbs used by the old Tour DuPont road race in the 1990s.

The main routes average 60 miles and 5000ft of climbing. The Grand Master routes average 35 miles with 3000ft of climbing.

Waivers and welcome packages will be available Wednesday night and Thursday morning. We will be starting each ride from the Rotary Gazebo in the middle of town.

All rides meet at 10 am depending on the weather. Any changes will be announced in the news right sidebar
