Roanoke, Virginia is known as the “Mountain Biking Capital of the East,” but its cycling appeal goes far beyond singletrack. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, the city offers a wide range of riding, from flat scenic greenways to long, sustained road climbs.

Mill Mountain Park sits right above downtown and can be reached by bike in about 15 minutes. The climb leads to the iconic Roanoke Star overlook and offers a solid effort with great views. The city also features over 30 miles of paved trails connecting neighborhoods, parks, and local spots. The Roanoke River Greenway runs through the heart of the city, providing a smooth, scenic ride along the river.

Roanoke also serves as a basecamp for some of the best road cycling in the region. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just minutes away, offering long climbs, fast descents, and minimal traffic.

Cycling is a core part of the city’s culture. After the ride, there are plenty of local spots to unwind, including downtown breweries like Deschutes and Big Lick. Bike shops such as Cardinal Bike Shop and Roanoke Mountain Adventures support the local scene and offer rentals, service, and group ride options.

Three official days of riding (Thursday–Saturday)

Enjoy three days of riding on curated routes through the Blue Ridge region. Each day features a planned route, with an optional Wednesday shake-out ride for those arriving early.

Three days of performance nutrition and recovery support

On-course nutrition and post-ride recovery support will be available each day to help you stay fueled and ready for the next ride.

Ride support on course

Support is available during each ride in case of mechanical issues or if assistance is needed returning to town.

Access to custom event kit

After registering, you’ll receive access information to order custom event kit directly through Verge Sport.

After-ride activities

Enjoy a relaxed, social atmosphere after each ride, with opportunities to connect with other riders and the cycling community.

What are the registration fees?

The registration fee for the 2026 MTMS is $85, which includes access to all routes and events.

What is the registration deadline?

The final deadline for registration is April 18, 2026. Early registration is encouraged to secure your spot.

Are there any age restrictions?

Participants must be 18 years or older to register for the Major Taylor Mountains Summit. Those under 18 are welcome to join if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What forms are required for registration?
You will need to complete the registration form and sign a liability waiver to participate.

Can I transfer my registration?

Yes, registrations can be transferred to another participant until April 1, 2026.

What should I bring to the event?
Ensure you have your cycling gear, a helmet, and any personal items needed for the rides.
