Roanoke, Virginia, is widely recognized as the "Mountain Biking Capital of the East," but its appeal extends far beyond just single track. The city’s unique bowl-shaped valley surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains—creates a diverse cycling environment that ranges from flat, scenic river paths to some of the most technical mountain climbs in the country.

Mill Mountain Park ,located right in the city, can be riding to from downtown to the summit in 15 minutes. It offers a technical climb to the iconic Roanoke Star overlook. Over 30 miles of paved trails connect neighborhoods, parks, and even local breweries. The Roanoke River Greenway has 10 miles following the river through the heart of the city. It’s relatively flat, beautifully landscaped, and passes by local favorites like Blue Cow Ice Cream and the Wasena City Tap Room.

Roanoke serves as a “basecamp” for some of the most scenic road cycling in America. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs near Roanoke and offers incredible climbs and long, winding descents with minimal stop-and-go traffic.

Cycling isn’t just a hobby in Roanoke; it’s part of the city’s identity. The after-ride scene has many local businesses designed to be enjoyed the downtown breweries like Deschutes or Big Lick. Bike hops like Cardinal Bicycle and Roanoke Mountain Adventures provide rentals, shuttle services, and group rides for visitors.

The registration fee for the 2026 MTMS is $85, which includes access to all routes and events.

What is the registration deadline?

The final deadline for registration is April 15, 2025. Early registration is encouraged to secure your spot.

Are there any age restrictions?

Participants must be 18 years or older to register for the Major Taylor Mountains Summit. Those under 18 are welcome to join if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What forms are required for registration?
You will need to complete the registration form and sign a liability waiver to participate.

Can I transfer my registration?

Yes, registrations can be transferred to another participant until April 1, 2026.
